Money Matters

During this session, participants will learn strategies to balance and build a family budget. Participants will explore ways to eliminate debt, calculate monthly expenses, compare expenses to income, lower monthly costs and be more mindful about spending. By the end of the session, participants will be able to build a budget that works for their family.

Promoting Social and Emotional Development

In this session, families will explore ways to strengthen the social-emotional skills of their young children at home. Families will have an opportunity to share their experiences and strategies. Facilitators will offer information about evidence-based approaches and practices to support children’s social-emotional learning and growth.

Workshop: Supporting Children with Disabilities

During this workshop, families will receive support in navigating the needs of young children with disabilities. Using a strengths-based approach, families will also learn well-researched ways to further develop their child’s talents and strengths.

Falling in Love with Learning

The Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) is partnering with DC Child Care Connections to bring Falling in Love with Learning to FONA’s annual Fall Festival and Bulb Sale located on the grounds of the National Arboretum. Join us for this family-friendly event for children ages 2 to 12 celebrating the intersection between science and nature.

Fall Festival and Bulb Sale

The Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) is partnering with DC Child Care Connections to bring Falling in Love with Learning to FONA’s annual Fall Festival and Bulb Sale located on the grounds of the National Arboretum. Attendees should use the Arboretum’s New York Avenue entrance and park at the New York Avenue Parking Lot. A free shuttle will transport attendees between this parking lot and the event. Additional parking, without shuttle service, is available at the Grove Parking Lot and R Street Parking Lot.

Summer Safety

Summer is a time for warm weather, vacations and outdoor fun for young children and families. As the season approaches, it is important to be mindful of summer safety. Representatives from the District’s Metropolitan Police Department will present simple tips to promote summer safety and preparedness. Register for the workshop here.

Nutrition and Wellness Series

DC CCC, in partnership with the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) at the University of the District of Columbia, will be hosting an eight-week nutrition and wellness series for families beginning May 17, 2023. The series utilizes evidence-based strategies to address diet and physical activity behaviors and reduce the risk for food insecurity and chronic disease in families. Sessions are available in English or Spanish.

Discover Summer with DC Public Library (DCPL)

Join DCPL to learn about simple and engaging summer activities promoting early literacy skills that can be done at the library, at home or in the neighborhood. Families will receive information about the library's exciting all-ages summer learning program, Discover Summer, as well as other resources, services and programs available for free through DCPL.
