Math Counts: Encouraging Numeracy Development at Home

During this session, participants will learn various activities that can be done at home to support numeracy development in young children. Facilitators will demonstrate practical ways to promote number sense in children from birth to preschool.

Engaging in Two-Way Communication with Young Children

During this session, facilitators will offer research-based strategies for improving communication within families. Participants will learn strategies to assist in having difficult conversations with young children. Participants will also be given opportunities to practice skills introduced by the facilitators.

Accessing Resources in the Community

This workshop will provide information about accessing culturally-responsive community resources for families with young children. Participants will learn about a wide range of supports available to families in the District.

Eco-Mapping as a Tool for Resource Navigation

In this workshop, participants will learn about eco-mapping as a tool to identify resources in their respective communities. Facilitators will guide participants on using eco-mapping to develop and maintain a personal resource guide for their families.

Science Matters

During this session, participants will have an opportunity to learn various activities that can be done at home that promote science and inquiry in young children. Hosted in Spanish and English, the facilitators will demonstrate ways to encourage science learning and share information on science education resources available at little to no cost.

Knots and Knuckles: Developing Fine Motor Skills in Young Children

During this session, participants will learn about fine motor skill development in early childhood. The facilitator will introduce a host of hands-on activities for families that support muscle development and fine motor skills in children ages birth to 5.

Kindergarten Readiness

The transition from preschool to kindergarten presents many changes for young children. This workshop is designed to assist families as they approach this transition. Facilitators will provide tools and encourage dialogue that promotes readiness for kindergarten.

What’s Your Child’s Love Language?

During this workshop, a facilitator will introduce a host of hands-on activities designed to explore the various ways young children communicate. Participants will learn new and interesting ways of communicating with babies, toddlers and preschool-aged children.

During this workshop, participants will learn about policies that impact early childhood programs in the District. Participants will also learn about ways to navigate early childhood systems and advocate for their young children.
